In conversation with a friend….I think “unemployment” and “no paid work” are the wrong likely descriptors of 2050…. possible, but unlikely…. For it to be likely, to me, one would have to lean harder on the dystopia…. the rich and powerful “winners” increasingly buy up the commons…. a kind of enclosure, probably different in ways hard for us to foresee…. so some billions are gradually made poorer as their opportunities narrow and as their desire for dignity diminishes with a constant feed of entertainment and drugs?  But if the gains are widespread, temporary disruption aside, the most likely thing that happens is we humans create new needs and wants and AI is leveraged to satisfy those. Now, all bets are off if AI becomes sentient and aligned to goals that are not easily controlled by “owners”…. it seems fairly plausible that AI agents become “un-turnoffable” and they pursue goals… if part of their goals/means is to create and replicate, then easy to imagine a world where there are a lot of them, they are networked and “smarter” than humans, and humans become 2nd class sentient entities…. we have no way of understanding what that might look like because plainly different from human-chimp, human-cow, human-dog interactions…. ?  and those are our only examples….
